The countdown to 2027 is on!

die Anmeldung für den 4. Rureifel Trail am 17. April 2027 beginnt am 11.11. um 00:00 Uhr.
Nicht mehr lange und es ist endlich wieder soweit! Vielen Dank für Eure Geduld. Wir sind super happy, dass der RET so schnell wächst und wichtiger Bestandteil der deutschen Trailrunning-Szene im Frühling geworden ist.
Heute wollen wir Euch über Veränderungen und Neuheiten der 4. Auflage am 17. April 2027 informieren:
Die Strecken:
Wir haben für die 14-17 Jährigen einen RET Youth über 2.8 km ins Leben gerufen.
Der RET11 und RET22 bleiben nahezu unverändert.
Beim RET44+ und RET77 mussten die Strecken im ersten Teil verändert werden, da ein Eigentümer seine Genehmigung zurückgezogen hat. Dieser Umstand wurde jedoch insbesondere für den RET44+ ein Gewinn. Der RET44+ stößt nun viel früher auf den RET77 und hat auch eine längere Passage durch das unberührte Kalltal und damit wesentlich weniger Asphaltanteil als vorher. Der RET77 läuft zu Beginn nicht mehr den "Kühlenbusch“ hoch, sondern nimmt einen anderen Verlauf. Die weiteren leichten Änderungen sind marginal, aber trotzdem sehr schöne Abschnitte. Der RET 44+ und der RET77 bekommen ein paar Höhenmeter dazu.
Die Anmeldebedingungen:
Wir haben seit 2024 ein großes Wachstum erlebt und die Trailrun-Community in der Rureifel wächst und wächst. Das ist genial, aber gleichzeitig wächst auch das Bedürfnis nach noch mehr Startplätzen, darauf haben wir reagiert:
2026 waren wir mit 1.900 Teilnehmenden frühzeitig ausgebucht. 2027 wollen wir 2.300 Teilnehmenden die Chance auf einen Startplatz geben. Wir glauben, dass wir damit allerdings eine Obergrenze des Machbaren für die Gegebenheiten erreicht haben.
Die Anmeldung öffnet - wie jedes Jahr - am 11.11. direkt um 00:00 Uhr. Es wird wieder drei Preisstufen geben (siehe Aussschreibung). Für das diesjährige Rennen hatten wir nach 24 Stunden bereits 871 Anmeldungen! Seid also besser wachsam … Für den 4.Rureifel Trail wird kein kostenpflichtiges Sorglos-Paket mehr angeboten.
Damit Ihr dennoch flexibel bleibt, bieten wir nun drei Umbuchungsmöglichkeiten an (Details siehe AGB §4):
a.) Ummeldung auf eine andere Person innerhalb der Distanz
Den Geldtransfer regeln die Personen unter sich. Kosten: 10,- € Ummeldegebühr. Tipp: Wer niemanden findet = Anzeige auf Kleinanzeigen.de.
b.) Upgrade auf eine längere Distanz
Kosten: 10,-€, Ummeldegebühr plus Differenzbetrag der längeren Distanz des gebuchten Tarifs.
c.) Downgrade auf eine kürzere Distanz
Kosten: 10,- €, Ummeldegebühr, keine Rückerstattung des Differenzbetrags.
Up- und Downgrade gewähren wir nur, solange die Kapazitäten der neu gewählten Distanz es noch zulassen.
Mit der Anmeldebestätigung wird für jede der drei Optionen ein Link bereitgestellt, mit dem die Umbuchung eigenständig in der Anmeldemaske vorgenommen werden kann.
Alle weiteren gebuchten Leistungen bleiben bei der Ummeldung bestehen, können also nicht storniert werden.
Frist für diese Ummeldefunktion
Wir haben diese Frist für alle drei Optionen verlängert: Ummeldungen sind bis zum 09. April 2027 um 23:59 Uhr möglich. Danach geht allerdings nichts mehr!
Eine Startplatz-Verschiebung auf das nächste Jahr oder eine Erstattung des Startgelds bei Stornierung, bieten wir nicht mehr an. Wir werden weiterhin in gut begründeten Ausnahmefällen (z.B. Schwangerschaft) kulant bleiben. Verletzungen, Dienstreisen, Urlaube, Geburtstagsfeiern etc. jedoch liegen in der Eigenverantwortung des Teilnehmenden und sind kein Ausnahmefall! Dafür bitten wir um Verständnis.

Information about the 1st RET-TEAM-BACKYARD12 on October 3rd, 2026
Are you ready to tackle the 12-hour challenge, either solo or as part of a team? The course is a mix of singletrack trails and forest roads, and therefore includes some rough terrain. Each lap is 6.7 km (120 meters of elevation gain), which after 12 laps would mean a total distance of 80.4 km and 1,440 meters of elevation gain. So pace yourself and use the short breaks to recharge.
Registration for the 1st RET-TEAM-BACKYARD12 on October 3, 2026 in Obermaubach starts on July 3, 2026 at 3:00 PM.

RET 2026 review and RET 2027 outlook
We have already communicated through several channels that we are extremely overwhelmed by the success of the 3rd Rureifel Trail with over 1,500 finishers!!!
After the incredibly emotional experience of 2025, this third edition topped everything. Your numerous responses via social media, WhatsApp, email, and in person mostly ranged from "mega" to "speechless euphoria." Your athletic achievements deserve the utmost respect. We were able to celebrate another true trail running tournament at Nideggen Castle with all of you! This honors us and makes us very proud, but we know our tasks for 2027, and the planning is already underway.
Save the date 2027:
On April 17, 2027, we'll once again be bringing Nideggen Castle and the Rureifel region to life. We already have some ideas for expanding the event, while maintaining its family-friendly atmosphere – even as we continue to grow. Friday, April 16, 2027, is also playing a significant role in these plans, but we'll share more details later when things become more concrete.
Registration will likely open again on November 11, 2026, and we expect starting places to be in high demand. So be on your guard when it starts!

1st home run on November 23, 2025
27 intrepid trail runners were not deterred by temperatures around zero degrees and stood at the starting line for the 1st HOMERUN by Rureifel Trail .
This new community run format, devised by us, requires participants to run as far as possible along a predetermined track within a set time of either 111 or 333 minutes. The crucial factor is turning back in time to return before the time expires.
The winner of the 333-minute race was Helge Heers (58 years old, he actually only needed 297 minutes!), followed by Kai Kohlmann and the exceptionally strong first woman, Katharina Bey. She even crossed the finish line ahead of the third man, Niklas van der Assen. All four completed the 30km mark and expertly navigated the shortest possible HOMERUN (approx. 20km) back to the finish line in good time.
Felix Weber of Tree Athletes eV won the 111km race and also received around 370 euros in donated "entry fees" for the ecological running initiative he founded (www.tree-athlete.org).
Everyone agreed: There should be a repeat performance in November 2026! We will inform you in due course.

Information on the start of registration for 2026 and the 1st Home Run
Registration for the 3rd Rureifel Trail on April 18, 2026, at Nideggen Castle opens on November 11, 2025, at midnight. The participant limit across all distances is 1,800. Last year we already had 300 registrations on the first day – we're expecting a bit of a rush. So it's best to register early and take advantage of our "worry-free package" to ensure you're covered.
There are only a few spots left for our first Home Run on November 23, 2025 (not an official competition). Anyone who can still participate for 111 or 333 minutes needs to register.

Kick-off for our RET Community Runs (CR)
Der erste Mittwoch-Termin findet noch im Hellen statt und wird daher auch etwas trailiger sein, die anderen drei Termine werden im Dunkeln stattfinden, also Stirnlampe nicht vergessen. Wir treffen uns mittwochs immer gegen 17:30 Uhr, sodass wir um 17:45 Uhr loslaufen können. Wir werden mindestens zwei, eher drei Gruppenstärken anbieten. Als Referenzwert dient ein flaches Grundlagentempo für Gruppe 1 bis etwa 5:15min/km, Gruppe 2 bis 6min/km und Gruppe 3 bis etwa 6:30min/km.

Treffpunkt: Parkplatz Stadion Kreuzau (400m Laufbahn). Wir laufen über sanfte Trails durch die Drover Heide. ACHTUNG, Stirnlampe mitbringen.

Start am großen Parkplatz Heimbach. Wellig mit sanften Anstiegen/Trails.
Sa, 06.12. Community Hike Obermaubach
Treffpunkt: 9:45 Uhr am großen Parkplatz Seestraße
Wanderung über 18-20km (4-5 Std.) mit anschließender Einkehr bei Cafe Flink (optional).
Mi, 10.12. Nideggen
Start ist beim RET-Start (Burgvorplatz, Kirchgasse 10). Wir erkunden die Abschnitte der ersten und letzten Kilometer der Wettkampfstrecken. Dauer etwa 90 Minuten.
So, 21.12. Weihnachtsspecial (Trail-Party)
Beginn: gegen 9:30 Uhr
Treffpunkt: Parkplatz Burgberg in Bergstein (Hürtgenwald)
Wir laufen eine etwa 17 und 23 km lange Strecke (weitere Infos folgen).
Anmeldungen für alle CR per Mail cr@rureifel-trail.com. Gebt bitte die gewünschten Termine an und nennt uns Vorname, Nachname, Jahrgang sowie die gewünschte Pace, damit wir die Gruppen sinnvoll aufteilen können. Änderungen können aber auch noch vor Ort vorgenommen werden, also keine Sorge.

RET111 and RET333 -
A new event in autumn 2025!
Der „1. Rureifel - Home-Run“ soll am Sonntag, 23. November 2025 stattfinden und der Veranstaltungsort bleibt vorerst noch geheim (irgendwo in der Rureifel zwischen Simmerath und Nideggen). Übernommen vom Biber-Backyard Team (Danke für die geniale Idee!) entwickeln wir hier ein neues Ultra-Event, bei dem in einer festgelegten Zeit …
RET111 = 111 Minuten
RET333 = 333 Minuten
… eine möglichst lange Strecke (die Route ist nicht markiert, navigiert wird mit GPS-Track der erst kurz vorm Start veröffentlicht wird) zurückgelegt werden soll und man dann aber keine Minute zu spät zurück am Start sein darf, um in die Wertung zu kommen. Die Route des Rückwegs ist dann frei wählbar.
Es soll ein kleines aber feines Veranstaltungsformat werden, das den Renncharakter mal von einer anderen Seite aufzieht. Wer sich hier angesprochen fühlt, kann uns gerne eine E-Mail an norbert@rureifel-trail.com senden. Du erhältst dann zu gegebener Zeit eine persönliche Einladung mit allen Details.

2. Rureifel Trail at Nideggen Castle –
Respect and well done! To everyone involved!
It was a true celebration that we were able to share with you and all the other participants on April 12th around Nideggen Castle.
Exactly 1,108 participants completed the 2nd Rureifel Trail and, finally, just before the finish line, even conquered the castle wall of the 900-year-old Nideggen Castle with the help of a straw bale staircase!
… 158 of you, especially “brave”, even tackled the ultra-distance of the RET66 with its impressive 2,500 meters of elevation gain!
Aron Verhaeghe from Ghent, Belgium, with a time of 5 hours and 51 minutes, and Joanna Tallmann from Altenahr, Germany, with a time of 6 hours and 24 minutes, will go down in the annals of Nideggen Castle as the first "Rureifel Trail winners." But you are all winners, because anyone who spent several hours on the steep trail in the midday heat has accomplished something truly remarkable.
Respect. Done! … stood at the finish line, and all participants truly deserved it, many on their very first trail running adventure.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our two main sponsors (District of Düren and Sparkasse Düren) as well as all other sponsors for their generous support. Special thanks go to the 75 dedicated volunteers without whom such an event would not be possible – in particular to Angelo Bergs and his “Bergstein Team” as well as Helmut Heuser and the THW Hürtgenwald for the successful organization of two refreshment stations, which were run independently.
Save the Date 2026: The 3rd Rureifel Trail will take place on April 18, 2026. We are again planning four trail distances, one or two hiking distances, and a Kids Run. Basically, we intend for most things to remain the same as they were this year, but as those who know us know: we're always up for a surprise or two!

The countdown is on! There are only 3 weeks left until RET 2025 - here's some important information for you:
1. The start time of the RET22 has been postponed by 15 minutes to 13:45 – this is due to a change in the train timetable. This prevents some participants from having to wait at Zerkall (km 3.4) during the start phase.
2. The RET22 will have an "elite block" so that participants aiming for a sub-2-hour finish can start at the front. All other participants will start immediately behind them. Further information will be provided in the race briefing.
3. We only have a few starting places left for all distances. The remaining places can be viewed on the registration page.
4. RET Kids: The starting field for RET Kids is slowly filling up, but there's still room for more, right?
5. Our team of helpers is complete. We are absolutely overwhelmed that so many of you have volunteered and will be supporting us. Thank you so much for your commitment!!!

February 23rd: Next Community Run in Heimbach or
The "dress rehearsal" before the 2nd Rureifel Trail 2025!
On this day we are again offering two routes. This time they will be a bit longer, at approximately 15 and 30 km. The 15 km route is aimed at those who would like to enjoy a leisurely and pleasant trail run in a group.
Those who want to complete the run and those who want to see the Heimbach/Schmidt section of the 66 km route are welcome to join. But even on this loop, the focus is on fun and exploring the route.
However, this offer is aimed more at experienced trailer operators.
Meeting point: Next to the Aral petrol station "Parkplatz Heimbach" (please note parking fees apply) – easily accessible by the Rurtalbahn railway .
Start 30 km: 8:30 a.m. – Arrival Rurtalbahn 8:06 a.m.
Start 15 km: 9:30 am - Arrival Rurtalbahn 9:06 am
Cost: As always, none!
Bring along: Good mood and appropriate clothing.
Pace: Don't worry, no one will be left behind. We want to have fun and introduce you to the routes.
Registration: Please register by email at office@rureifel-trail.com and with the subject "Community Run" and specifying the distance.
Food and drink: Please bring enough food and drink for the run so that no one gets hungry.

Community on the Run!
We want to offer you two special highlights before the end of the year: our first two community runs.
We'll start with the first run on Sunday, November 24th. The meeting point will be the large parking lot on Seestraße at the entrance to Obermaubach (coming from Untermaubach, it's on the left).
On Sunday, December 22nd, we will meet in the parking lot of Nideggen Castle (Kirchgasse 10). We will provide you with mulled wine and/or punch there after the run.
Cost: None!
Bring along: Good mood and appropriate clothing.
Distances: Two distances are offered: 11-13 km and 21-25 km.
Routes: We will be running on the RET routes. Therefore, expect plenty of trails and elevation gain.
Start time: Races begin at 9:30 am.
Pace: Don't worry, no one will be left behind. We want to have fun and introduce you to the routes.
Registration: Please register by emailing office@rureifel-trail.com with the subject line "Community Run" and let us know the date and distance. Of course, you are welcome to participate on both days.
Registration deadlines (for better planning):
For November 24th, Obermaubach: Friday, November 22nd at 1 p.m.
For December 22nd, Nideggen Castle: Friday, December 20th at 1 p.m.

No dogs will be competing in 2025.
Dear friends with dogs,
Apparently it got lost in the shuffle or was unfortunately not communicated clearly enough by us, but in 2025 no dogs will be allowed - regardless of the distance.
We would also like to explain why:
1. It's simply not logistically possible, or we would have to let you start very early when nobody is there yet, and we don't want that either.
2. Within a trail run, this is too dangerous, especially since many runners are afraid of dogs.
3. We haven't forgotten you and would like to include a pure dog race in the program again in 2026. However, this requires...
probably a two-day event.

Free starting place available for the RET!
That sounds tempting, doesn't it! However, there is one small catch to the offer, if you can even call it that: If you or someone you know supports us as a course marshal or at a refreshment station for 4-6 hours on April 12th, you or someone you know will receive a free entry to the RET 2025 or 2026.
